I was talking with someone who kept using the term Five-0. to refer to the police – she’d just returned from a vacation in Hi – and I remarked, “I wonder how it would work if Hawaii was the 49th state. Four-9 just doesn’t sound the same.” She had that look of someone who just had bells go off in her, like, doh–
Tom Sellick about same age as I am. About 20 yrs back I was working out in the Gym at 10th and Arbutus (In Vancouver)
I seen this guy who seemed Vaguely familiar
Of course it was Tom, but I absent mindedly said, ‘Hey Magnum, come on, put some weight on that thing.’ (Doing Lat pull downs) He liked Vancouver. Nice guy, too. I still can’t remember the name of the movie he did here
In the lobby there were about 20 women age of 25 – 40 wanting to meet him.
LOL, he left by the side door
Awesome your daughter got his autograph
I’ve never met him, but I do recall that in his episodes he never uttered a cuss word, nor did the script have him shooting up/beating up all the bad guys.
Today’s writers ought to take a lesson from that, however, I don’t think they either care, or are even teachable.

That’s right. I also thought he was an authentic British.
16. December 2009 at 8:31 am
The best actor in that Series was Hillerman. ATexan who convinced everyone he was a Brit’. Fooled me. His Tae Chi form is off, though

We also used to see Helen Hayes, Dick Van Dyke and Tom Selleck. That was during Dick’s drinking years and he did NOT look good; glad he recovered!
16. December 2009 at 9:39 am
He was as you say a straight-up non-nonesense guy. And, no, you won’t see scripts or shows like Hawaii 5-0 again – sadly.

We used to see Jack at the polo matches up in Mokuleia. He gave my daughter (then 7 or so) his autograph and she was on cloud-9 a week after!
16. December 2009 at 10:05 am
Great theme and classic video opening
16. December 2009 at 11:02 am
Awesome car. R.I.P. JACK LORD. Straight arrow standup guy, too
16. December 2009 at 11:08 am
I’m guessing that a lot of young people who use the term 5.0 to refer to the police have never even seen this show.
