Q’orianka Kilcher represented Princess Kaiulani so well. She embraced her character beautifully. Loved the movie. Someone should’ve warned me to take lots of tissue to wipe the tears.
We are Polynesian but our ancestors came from South America. Bottom line is she represented well. That’s all that matters.

I would like to hear about the history of your people from you and not some asshole pro American professor. lol
21. May 2010 at 6:17 am
@85Malie u make like only ur people suffered, what about other places, there are a ton of others who have it far worst and are still dealing with it ….of course they didnt really capture the true suffering but thats hollywood, they exagerate what can sell

@Kaluaokalani . . . with ever so slight research, you can see it was a hot political topic of the time. Opening discussed and debated around the world in newspapers. . . including the newspapers referred to as covering Princess Kaiulani.
If you try googling Grover Cleveland Queen liliuokalani you will get about 12,800 results many referencing news of that that time.
21. May 2010 at 7:51 am
@Kaluaokalani President Grover Cleveland proposed using U.S. military force to put Queen Liliokalani back on the throne. When the deposed Queen refused to grant amnesty as a condition of her reinstatement, and said she would behead the the current government leaders and confiscate their property Cleveland was further humiliated at the realization he was trying to put a tyrant back on her throne.

Curatrix2008… Did you just say that it wasn’t hidden? Hmmmmm. Please educate your mind. Please get a life. You sound so hurt and bitter. Probably lack of attention while growing up. I’m sorry. Poor baby.
21. May 2010 at 8:34 am
@curatrix2008 is one of those overly defensive, passive-aggressive types that only take jabs at people’s opinions behind a cloak of anonymity just to get a reaction out of the people that have to live with these issues. issues that have absolutely no affect to his/her life. shame.
21. May 2010 at 8:59 am
@85Malie . . . It has never been hidden. The events surrounding the topic of this film was well known at the time. You just found out apparently. Just as it’s well known that King Kamehameha lied and enticed his rival to meet and then knocked him off. Just as it’s known what China does. Your Queen acquiesced, agreed and submitted. AND YOU WANT A DO-OVER!
21. May 2010 at 9:22 am
you know what, i know you dont know my peoples history because the U.S. has kept it under wraps this whole time… Now that the truth has been leaked, everyones in a frantic on how much people died in the overthrow and questioning whether or not the marines hurt anyone… Now my Queen asked only one thing and one thing only that her people was not harmed and that there will be no blood shed…
21. May 2010 at 9:56 am

21. May 2010 at 10:16 am
@85Malie . . . isn’t that what China is doing in Tibet? Isn’t that exactly what the is happening in Zimbabwe, in the middle east for women?
21. May 2010 at 10:52 am
@85Malie . . . isn’t that exactly what you are attempting?
21. May 2010 at 11:46 am
just imagine if someone told your great grandmother or grandfather saying that, whatever ethnicity you are or culture, you cannot practice….my tutu lady was forbidden to practice any kind of hawaiian culture it was that or be beaten or enslaved HOW WOULD YOU LIKE THE FEELING??? its not nice to just imagine it, is it……
21. May 2010 at 11:54 am

21. May 2010 at 12:07 pm
Should all the defeated get do-overs?
21. May 2010 at 12:13 pm
@kikiebby . . . WELL, it’s sad what the chinese are doing to Tibet; 1988 invasion of Spratly Islands bu China; 1979 invasion of Northern Vietnam; 1788 invasion of Nepal by China; 1788 invasion of Vietnam by China; 1693 invasion of Mongolia by China; 1683 invasion of Formosa by China; 1407 invasion of Vietnam by China; 645668 invasion of Korea by China; and 208 BC invasion of Vietnam by China. SHOULD I GO ON?
21. May 2010 at 1:04 pm
Its so sad what these barbarians did to Hawaii. I am of an Asian ethnic but I indeed have the blood of hawaiian in me. Ive lived in hawaii all my life, and im still here. My sister and I are both named after Kaiulani only because or hawaiian blood is traced back to her.
21. May 2010 at 1:38 pm
@85Malie . . . not their own religion – RELIGIOUS FREEDOM FOR ALL
21. May 2010 at 2:04 pm
keahi22 is right but if your so damn curious to know more about hawaiians and our history how about you stop comparing to what was and what is….Hawaiians were very sustainable to our elements so were the chinese we were all fine until america had to just fuck up everything…
21. May 2010 at 2:47 pm
If im not mistaken the so called americans now fled england because they wanted to have their own religious belief “Christianity” now who are you guys to call us stupid and naive about our history your the one that doesnt know a damn thing about us so who are you to judge not you…
21. May 2010 at 3:08 pm
@DeltaEagle7700 . . . the individuals did NOT have rights to their own opinion, the right to speak out, the right to disagree with their leaders publically under the royals. Individual rights was not a hawaiian concept or practice. Not uncommon for monarchies or dictatorships. Hawaiians want a DO-OVER. DO-OVERS for all those that didn’t win their conflicts?
21. May 2010 at 3:14 pm
@curatrix2008. “We” is the Hawaiian people.
21. May 2010 at 3:40 pm
@DeltaEagle7700 . . . this reminds me of kids. They make the decision to sneak out, go with bad friends, drink, go where they shouldn’t be then when it gets out of hand, then cry it was everyone else’s fault it turned out badly. What happened to personal responsibility here. It was those wicked haoles not our leaders. The royals may very well have thought they would play a bigger role; but, there is no way they could have not seen and agreed on some level to go along with it.
21. May 2010 at 3:42 pm
@DeltaEagle7700 When? and who is we? unless you are a royal, you had no say.
21. May 2010 at 4:14 pm
@curatrix2008. Of course. But what we did refuse is the overthrow of our country.
