The day after a bruising primary campaign, gubernatorial rivals Neil Abercrombie and Mufi Hannemann put aside their primary rivalry and greeted each other warmly Sunday at the Hawaii Democratic Party's Unity Breakfast. Hawaii News Now. Emotions ran high as Neil Abercrombie and Mufi Hannemann joined forces at the Hawaii Democratic Party’s post-election unity breakfast on Sunday. KITV. The word "unity" doesn't spring to mind when thinking of Mufi Hannemann and Neil Abercrombie. Civil Beat. Former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie tapped into a reservoir of support among traditional Democrats in his primary victory on Saturday but also did remarkably well in regions that often favor independents and conservatives. Star-Advertiser. Democratic candidate Neil Abercrombie's domination spanned all counties except Kauai. It was a blowout. KITV. The cheering started early at the old Comp USA building on Ala Moana Boulevard well before the first print-out was released. But when it was, the intensity in the room rose to a different level. KHON2. Having the most money didn’t prove to be an advantage in the state’s major primary races. Hawaii Reporter. Hawaii Republicans gathered in a show of unity and to unveil a legislative action plan outlining their proposals to improve Hawaii's economy, education and government. KITV. The state Republican Party is proposing term limits for state legislators and a rule requiring that a supermajority in the state House approve all tax hikes. Associated Press. The 42.8 percent of registered voters who cast ballots for Saturday's primary election exceeded the turnout in the last two primary elections. Star-Advertiser. With 39 of 40 precincts reporting late Saturday night, Maui County turnout was only 34.2 percent. Maui News. Lynda Goin has made it a point to cast her ballot every election year. The Intermediate Court of Appeals is scrutinizing a Hawaii law passed in 2003 that declares that new, naturally formed beach land above the high-water mark should belong to the public -- not adjoining private property owners. In response to mounting criticism about how the short supply of swine flu vaccine is being distributed in Hawai'i, the state will change the way it doles out the vaccine. Nearly 100 acres of agricultural land next to the Turtle Bay Resort on O'ahu's North Shore are headed for a sealed-bid sale, four years after a Florida-based investment firm bought the oceanfront property for $2 million with plans to subdivide it for potential residential use. U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka will be holding 15 information briefings from December 1 to December 8 to explain changes in the way federal workers in Hawaii will be paid. Honolulu police said officers opened fire on a car that as accelerating toward them on Saturday, marking the third officer-involved shooting in a month. A North Shore surf instructor on Saturday rescued a family visiting from the Mainland who had been swept out to sea while bodyboarding at Hanalei Bay. Longtime Hana community leader, Realtor and former Maui News community correspondent Carl Lindquist and his wife, Rae, have been reported missing after the wreckage of their car was found in a Hana streambed, police said Saturday evening. Hundreds of children and children-at-heart lined the streets of downtown Hilo Saturday evening to catch their first glimpse of Santa Claus. On a Sunday in October, three Waimea men gather at 7 a.m. on private grazing land in South Kohala to hunt goats. For them it is partly foraging and partly tradition. Ulupalakua Ranch owner Pardee Erdman has donated more than 11,000 acres to the Maui Coastal Land Trust. When Debbie Hecht suggested to the Hawaii County Charter Commission that it should add an amendment making the Two Percent for Public Lands law a part of the County Charter, she got less than she bargained for.

Most of Hawaii's 2009 Veteran's Day Events , including parades, family festivals, and ceremonies, will take place on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, which is Veteran's Day. There will also be a few early events this weekend, including the Kauai Veteran's Day Parade, and the Waianae Veteran's Day Parade in West Oahu, and the Hilo Veteran's Day Parade on the Big Island, all of which take place on Saturday, November 7. Veteran's day is an official state holiday in Hawaii so city and county offices will be closed and public bus lines may run on their weekend schedules. The Waimea Valley on the North Shore of Oahu will present a night walking tour of the valley once a month during the Fall of 2009. The tours will be led by Lopaka Kapanui, historian and master storyteller of Hawaiian folklore and legends.
